TRAVEL TIPS: SEVASTOPOL
When you get Inkerman, you can choose one of two entrances to
Sevastopol. As soon as you pass a bridge over Black River, you will see a road-sign
which says the main road turn left. If you go by it you will have to cross a railway
track, pass Inkerman town and go further through a big valley.
It is famous "Valley of Death" where the British army made it's bigest mistake
during Crimean War. Follow this road and you'll enter to Sevastopol via Ostriakova
prospekt - a big modern street. This way is good if you intend to stay in hotel
"Yard".
If you turn right after the bridge, you will pass a nice winding road over
Inkerman's Hill (where Inkerman's battle happend in 1854) and enter to the city near
railway station. This way is shorter if you need to get to hotel "Ukraine"
or "Sevastopol"
If you go to Sevastopol by sunny warm morning you can use not direct way, but
through North side of Sevastopol. To do that you should turn right 8 km after you'll pass
Verhne Sadovoe village, according to road-sign. Only few kilometres and you'll see the
apartment
houses and reach city. You can visit Russian-French cemetery from the time of Crimean War
(1854-55) which is on North side of Sevastopol. There is ferry from North side to the main
part of Sevastopol.
The ferry goes once per hour: 07:30; 08:30....... 19:30 to Sevastopol and
07:00;08:00...20:00 to the North side. You will get your first look at Sevastopol from the
North Bay and will amazed by nice buildings and the Monument of Sank ships. The ferry will
get you exactly to center of Sevastopol, so you could park your car and just walk around
downtown.
If you interested in Crimean War and want to visit a place of Alma's battle,
you should turn right in Novopavlovka Village and go along the road through several
villages which are each after other till you'll get a circle with four roads to opposite
sides. You should go around the circle and choose left one. In few hunded metres you will
see a monument on a hill, on left side of the road. Go there by small country road and you
will get to English cemetery with English and Russian monuments. It will be exactly a
place of
Alma's battle. |
